And at night. well... lets just say, Australia is far less cool now that we're gone.
Anyways, Pete's gone, I checked into a hostel and hit the beach. Took advantage of having no one to hang out with and took some cool pictures.

Shadows prove my momentary existance

A night to clear you head is good every so often, re-aline what you think about what you've seen over the past days, and formulate opinions, and ideals based on experiences. But, this was the next day, so its off to find more experience.

It came in the form of the worlds tallest residential tower. Q1 is an Australian pride built over a for year period and stretching a lofty 78 floors. For the price of an admission ticket to the viewing platform I wound up here.

From Sydney to surfers

It's been far too long I know. I apologize. So.. lets get this adventure started. ITs 10:30pm. I'm down town Sydney with a huge back-pack and an idea that I want to leave for Byron Bay Tonight, save some money on accomidation. So I ask around, find the bus terminal, buy a ticket from the driver, and 10+ hours later I stumble off the bus in the little hippie/backpacker town of Byron Bay. After checking into my hostel I threw on some boardies and hit the beach, -sleep-

So what do you do. Your on your own, contenants away from your friends and family. I did some exploring, saw the sights. Here are some of them.

The weather was perfect. Nothing but blue skies, and dry heat.

can you see the surfers?
I was only in Byron for a couple days, but I made some really cool friends. The worst part about traveling is that you meet so many cool people but, you realize you will probably never see them again.

I'll end my brief Byron Bay experience with a story.

9:30am. Boarding a bus with two other guys bound for Surfers Paradise several hours up the Coast. The two guys where friends, the more talkative of the two conversed on the usual back-packer themes, asking me where I'd been, what I'd seen, and where was I going. He explained in his thick english accent that they both worked in large firm in London and this was how they where spending their vacation. At first I had no problems with what the guy was saying. They where both clean cut, clean clothed, and didn't hold the general back-packer hunch. This was all well and good until an hour or so later when they told a girl down the isle that they were hair dressers. Something about these guys didn't add up, the matching tattoos, their knowledge of world geography and culture, and physiques that shouldn't belong to anyone who spent their life behing a desk, or a barbors chair. Near the end of the ride they must have sensed that I was a little uneasy talking to them. "Alright look, you want to know what we do?" the question caught me slightly off guard, "sure.." The fake enlish accent evaporated instantly and was replaced with a perfect american whisper. "We work for uncle sam, we've been doing military servailence in Iraq and Kwait. No lies here, from then on they where much more talkative, even the big silent guy who had looked so un-easy when they first let on who they really where. "its not esential for our job that we stay undercover, its just better for us that people don't know where we are or what we do." They then proceeded to give me their cell number and told me to call them that night if I wanted to go out for drinks with them. So that is how I got invited out for drinks with spys and thee adventure continues.

ps. I asked them what their matching tattoos meant and they read the ancient greek lettering that wound around thier arms. "we came, we saw, we conquered."

I got off the bus in surfers said good bye to my spy friends. and called pete, as this was where I was suppose to meet him. And after walking in a huge circle for a couple hours I met him and his girlfriend on the strip. It was good to see a familiar face again. THe next couple days where alot of fun, I stayed with petes family in a big hotel, a nice change from hostels. Those where good days, nothing crazy happend, but sometimes thats not a bad thing. Skim boarding, layin on the beach, playing pool, watching some live music, not a bad way to go. oh yea.. and surfing.
here are some pics.
